Femtech, or Female Technology Startups, On The Rise

This article by VentureBeat reports on the emergence of the FemTech sector, or the technology sector dedicated to women. Femtech is beginning to attract venture capitalists who see the value in investing in such opportunities. The femtech sector primarily addresses women’s health, including fertility solutions, period tracking apps, pregnancy and nursing care, women’s sexual wellness, and reproductive system healthcare.

As mentioned by the article, CB Insights estimates that around 45 femtech startups since 2014 raised over $1.1 billion in funding. These femtech startups include Progyny, a fertility platform that has raised a total of $49 million, and Glow, which raised $28 million. Furthermore, Femtech startups have also attracted the attention of the Y Combinator (YC), a Silicon Valley-based accelerator program that has already backed several women’s health startups, including iSono Health, L., Flex, and Nurx.
