Sila: Middle Eastern Version of WhatsApp?

Appmahal, a Palestinian startup has just launched its own localised version of WhatsApp. Sila, the Middle Eastern version of WhatsApp has been released a couple of months ago and it already has around 200,000 users. Marketing Director, Mona Al-Haddad said, “we wanted to introduce something that suits the culture of our region, so we took the chat part out of Appmahal and created a separate app for it, customized to the Arabian experience.”

The app was inspired by similar localised services in Asian and European markets such as Hike and We Chat. Similarly, Appmahal wanted to create such an app for the MENA market that aligns with its culture. Appmahal hopes that this app will provide a competitive edge in such a crowded and social marketplace.
