Bahrain Hosts Technology Week Pavilion (Datacenter) and Startup Competition

The Bahrain Economic Development Board (EDB) announced today it would host the Bahrain’s Technology Week Pavilion (Datacenter) in collaboration with Amazon Web Services (AWS) from 24-28 September 2017. It would show how the latest technological advancement and the digital trends disrupt and revolutionize the global industry and the regional economy. The event would also explore the influence of Fintech, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and cloud computing on the future of the region. EDB expect to receive participants from all across the globe, including government officials, high profile managers from the private sector, representatives of regulatory bodies, as well as startup talents.

The Technology Week will be accompanied by two other major events, along with all the exhibitions and panel discussions. The first one is the Amazon Web Services Summit (AWS) on September 25. The other one is the Innovation Forum, powered by MIT Enterprise Forum Pan Arab ( 28-29 September).

During the AWS Summit, the Bahraini businesses would have the chance to get to know the cloud computing platform of Amazon.com which is the first of its kind in the country. The conference visitors would learn more about it and how they could use it to optimize their business operations.

The Innovation Forum, sponsored by the EDB touches upon similar topics. It would bring together industry insiders and representatives of leading international companies to focus on latest technologies and scientific research.

Asked to comment on the upcoming Technology Week, H.E. Khalid Al Rumaihi, Chief Executive of the EDB said:

Home to the GCC’s leading ICT infrastructure, it is essential that Bahrain continues to foster the kind of innovative technologies and frameworks that have led to world-class companies choosing the Kingdom as their home for regional operations. It is events like Technology Week that allow us to ensure that Bahrain’s digital ecosystem remains world-class.

Tamkeen would also take part in the Technology Week by offering a  total of US$75,000 in prizes to the winners of the FACE-OFF ON THE BAY pitch competition. Promising startups would have the chance to compete and demonstrate their work to be pronounced as the Startup Bahrain Champion and receive US$50,000 and a ticket to the Web Summit in Lisbon. The runner-up would receive US$20,000. The people’s choice startup would receive US$ 5,000. In addition to that, the local telecom market leader Batelco would give US$ 3,000 worth of prizes for the most active visitors on the social media via @StartUpBahrain page.
