6 ways you can bank safely with the National Bank of Bahrain

As the first National bank in Bahrain with a rich history that goes as far back as 1957, the National Bank of Bahrain (NBB) has a lot to show for in its journey spanning more than six decades. Easy access to secure and convenient banking is perhaps the crown jewel among them.

We know that we’re living in unprecedented times in which one’s safety is associated with staying at home. It’s precisely why we’re highlighting six key features and services that’ll help you during these times. Those are the same features that helped NBB spearhead the efforts to set new standards for safe banking in Bahrain.

1) Tap & Go

The Tap & Go feature is available across all contactless NBB credit, debit and prepaid cards. The NFC technology enables you to make instant payments with just a tap of your NBB card wherever you’re shopping, be it your neighborhood grocery shop, hotels during your holiday trip, or the local coffee shop where you meet your buddies — as long as the Point-of-Sale (POS) has a contactless symbol on it, you’re good to go.

Here’s a quick review of what you need to know about the Tap & Go feature:

  • There are two types of Tap & Go payments: ones that you need to put your PIN code for, and ones that do not require a PIN.
  • There is a daily transaction limit for PIN-less transactions of BHD 50, although it can vary depending on the POS terminal and the country.
  • The Tap & Go feature is available by default on all newly issued NBB debit, credit, and prepaid cards.
  • The feature is available on all NBB POS terminals in Bahrain.
  • It is available internationally and the PIN-less transaction limit is subject to the country’s limits.

2) Open Banking

NBB paved the way for some serious reforms in Bahrain’s banking ecosystem by rolling out the first Open Banking solution “NBB Aggregator”, in partnership with Tarabut Gateway. The aggregator allows you to access all your bank accounts from a single platform, the NBB App.

No need to worry, the service is confidential to the client and secure, as the service is only available for customers that explicitly consent to share their data with the platform. It compiles and presents all key information about your accounts, cards, and loan balances across different banks in Bahrain in one simple, intuitive interface. This way, the customers themselves have better control of and a complete overview of their data.

Soon, sophisticated analytics platforms enable the customer to receive financial product offers customized  to the users in a way that could be a win-win solution for all. Here’s a detailed guide to NBB’s Open Banking solutions for those of you interested.
