World Trade Organization to launch the Small Business Champions Initiative

The World Trade Organization‘s (WTO) Micro, Small and Medium-Sized Enterprise Informal Working Group (MSME Group), in partnership with the International Chambre of Commerce (ICC) and the International Trade Centre (ITC), are calling for proposals that support the transition of small businesses to more eco-friendly, sustainable practices that will contribute to the global effort of reducing carbon emissions.

The submission of proposals is open to organizations, business associations, chambers of commerce, and non-governmental entities. As the need to decarbonize becomes more pressing, this year’s annual competition aims to assist small businesses in reducing their carbon footprint and gaining access to sustainability innovations so they can play a significant role in achieving the UN sustainability targets and helping our transition to a low-carbon economy.

Businesses, industry associations, chambers of commerce, and non-governmental entities are welcome to submit proposals; they must be no longer than three pages in length and submitted in Word or PDF format by August 15, 2022 (11:59 pm CEST). Proposals should detail the concept, goals, timelines, and other information as necessary.

Further information on the Small Business Champions Initiative can be found here. The winners will be announced during the first week of October within the 2022 Edition of Building Bridges in Geneva, Switzerland.
