Uber’s simplified version launches in the UAE & Saudi

Ride-hailing app Uber has launched “Uber Lite” in the UAE and Saudi, the company has announced. Uber Lite is basically a simplified version of the app, and it’s available for Android in English and Arabic.

Available in the UAE and Saudi Arabia, according to the company, Uber Lite was launched to provide rides to consumers irrespective of the quality of their network connection.

The company’s statement further explains Uber Lite stating: “At less than 5MB download size, Uber Lite enables those with basic smartphones operating in spotty network conditions to book a ride and start their journey – all in a matter of seconds. Not only does the lighter version of the app reduce data consumption, it does so without sacrificing on any of its main functionalities. In fact, some of its features work even when the app is not connected to the internet.”

Consumers don’t even have to type in their location, as they can choose a nearby point of interest since the app stores the city’s top places. So even if they’re offline, no network is needed for them to appear.

The company’s statement adds that Uber Lite was developed to cut down on mobile data consumption, as well as work in areas with limited network connectivity.

The simplified version already accessible in Qatar, Lebanon, and Bahrain, and it’s expected to hit the rest of the MENA markets later this year.
