This Egyptian-based gifting platform just raised seed investment from Springboard

The Giftery, an Egyptian-based online gifting platform just raised an undisclosed amount from Springboard, a Cairo-based investment company that mainly invests in SMEs in the MENA region.

The startup was launched back in 2010 by Sarah Aclimandos and Karim Atalla, where it aims to be the first online gifting e-commerce platform of the region by helping users buy and send any type of gifts (flowers, chocolate, teddy bears you name it) to their loved ones.

Not only that but The Giftery allows users to create their own gift lists where they can compile a list of items they’re dying to have and then can share it with their friends and families. But it’s not just limited to this target audience, The Giftery is also utilized by corporates to send out personalized business gifts.

The founder and CEO, Sarah Aclimandos commented on the investment saying: “We are excited to have Springboard as our partners on this journey. Over the past six years, we have managed to establish a strong connection with thousands of customers who use the Giftery regularly for all their gifting needs.”

Sarah also stressed on how they’ll be using the investment to focus on marketing their services to a wider customer base, simultaneously continue investing in technology, and take their customers’ comments and suggestion “to heart to improve the gifting experience.”

So far, the Giftery has over 150 stores and brands on their e-commerce platform that caters to different occasions. These include weddings, baby showers, birthday, and housewarming parties.

Gamal Guemeih, co-founder of Springboard believes that the startup offers a unique service to its customers: “The Giftery has managed to become the go-to gifting platform for its customers, given the uniqueness of its services and its extensive portfolio of selected suppliers and products; factors that have set from other e-commerce platforms. Its devoted management team has also succeeded in leveraging The Giftery’s first mover advantage to build operational expertise and adapt the model to the Egyptian market’s need.”

Gamal adds that although Springboard is relatively new to the tech scene, it will still continue investing in home-grown e-commerce startups.
