RiseUp organizes RiseUp Week – the largest hackathon for Upper Egypt

In collaboration with ITIDA and The Greek Campus, RiseUp is organizing RiseUp Week across the 4 Upper Egyptian governorates of Qena, Sohag, Minya, and Assuit. The purpose of the hackathon is to offer opportunities and resources to the innovators of the region to develop the Upper Egypt tech and entrepreneurship ecosystems as well as improve the livelihood of Upper Egyptians. The hackathon also aims to access and activate the technology and entrepreneurship potential of Upper Egypt.

4 separate hackathons will take place simultaneously at locations across the 4 governorates between 14-16 of February. Teams will be developing digital solutions or applications that help tackle issues facing Upper Egypt. As an example, teams could develop solutions for employment, farming and irrigation, physical and mental disabilities, road and transportation infrastructure, financial inclusion, or digital transformation.

30 teams of 3-5 members from each governorate will be accepted to participate in their respective hackathons. Teams must include a developer to produce the digital solution or App, but could also include creatives and designers, entrepreneurs, managers and marketeers, and innovators.

The top 3 teams from each hackathon will be invited to pitch at the final RiseUp Week event at the Assuit Innovation and Technology Cluster on the 14-16 of March. The event will also include exhibition by 20 Upper Egyptian startups as well as 10 different talks by industry leaders on business strategy, design, and technology.

The top team will receive 30,000 EGP, the 2nd place team will receive 20,000 EGP, and the 3rd place team will receive 10,000 EGP at the final stage of RiseUp Week in March. 40,000 EGP will also be distributed to the top teams from the 4 simultaneous hackathons across Upper Egypt.
