Following the concept of a sharing economy, an ambitious group of Omani students established the startup Mandoob. A fully Omani company that offers delivery service door to door.
It serves as an intermediary, explained Al Hussain Al Bahri, one of the Mandoob’s founders. It delivers items and requests by communicating via the company’s phone number, Twitter or WhatsApp, and the startup will soon launch its own mobile app. Al Bahri noted that some of his team members are women and added that they were among the best mediators.
The idea for Mandoob came up two years ago when Al Bahri and four other friends started working with SME owners as their mediators. Earlier this summer, they expanded the operations by including new team members. They also decided not to set limits for their door to door services.
When asked about the challenges he faced, Al Bahri named the lack of affordable rental office spaces. It was also difficult to find an effective way to stay in touch with all the mediators. The founder said that anyone could join the company by filling in the online application on Twitter and receive their first payment within a week.
