Bahrain Bourse Honors Top Finalists of this year’s TradeQuest Program with a total of BD 30,000 cash rewards

Under the patronage of H.E. Zayed bin Rashid Alzayani, the Minister of Industry, Commerce, & Tourism and the Minister in Charge of Bahrain Bourse and in the presence of H.E. Rasheed Moh’d Al-Maraj, the CBB Governor, and Mr. Abdulkareem Ahmed Bucheery Chairman of Bahrain Bourse, the final TradeQuest Awards Ceremony was held on Saturday, 21st April 2018 where high school & university students taking part in the TradeQuest Program, organized by Bahrain Bourse, were honored at the ceremony with top finalists receiving a total of BD 30,000 cash reward.

The ceremony was attended by students and their respective families, senior representatives from sponsoring organizations, senior officials from the Ministry of Education, other invited guests as well as the officials of Bahrain Bourse.

Shaikh Khalifa bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa, Chief Executive Officer of Bahrain Bourse, delivered a speech highlighting the importance of the TradeQuest Program in capitalizing on youth talent, many of whom have become pioneers in all sectors of the economy.

Shaikh Khalifa bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa said, “We are pleased to celebrate today the 20th Anniversary of the TradeQuest Program.  I would like to thank H.E. Rasheed Al Maraj, Governor of the Central Bank of Bahrain for his presence and support to the program across all these years, praising the support received from the top Government Officials as well as sponsors to ensure the success and sustainability of the program over the past years. This demonstrates an incentive for us at Bahrain Bourse to continue the program and develop it further in the coming years.”

“We are also proud that we have expanded the program to include a larger number of government schools, private schools, and universities, making the  TradeQuest Program one of the biggest awareness programs targeting students in the region.

H.E. Rasheed Al Maraj, Governor of the Central Bank of Bahrain presented Bahrain Bourse’s trophy and awards to the top three finalists in each category. The investment advisors were also honored for their extraordinary commitment towards this program.

Top three winners from the Private schools category were as follows: 1st Place – Ibn Khuldoon National School, 2nd Place – St. Christopher’s School, and 3rd Place – Al Noor International School. Top three winners from the Government schools category were as follows: 1st Place – Saar Secondary Girls School, 2nd Place – Al Istiqlal Secondary Girls School, and 3rd Place – Jidhafs Secondary Girls School. Top three winners from the Universities category were as follows: 1st place – University of Bahrain, 2nd Place – Royal University for Women, and 3rd Place – BIBF.

TradeQuest is a simulated business-education partnership program provides participating students a real-life simulation experience of capital market investment by learning the systems and regulations implemented at both Bahrain Bourse and NYSE, analyzing and selecting which shares to invest in, and managing a portfolio of shares.

Competing teams from each category are allocated a virtual portfolio of BD 500,000 and US$4 million to invest in companies listed at Bahrain Bourse and New York Stock Exchange (NYSE). The teams were closely mentored by a professional Investment Advisor to guide them throughout the program tenure.

Towards the end of each of the three trading periods of the TradeQuest program, the schools are required to present their strategy, objectives, and performance to the Investment Review Committee, followed by a Q&A session led by the committee. Their assessment is based on accuracy of information, thoroughness of analysis & research, and team work effort. Final scoring is based on an assessment of qualitative & quantitative elements.

The 2017-2018 TradeQuest program includes a total of 17 school teams & 4 universities, including 8 private schools and they are: Abdul Rahman Kanoo International School, Bahrain Bayan School, Bahrain School, Al-Hekma International School, Ibn Khuldoon National School, Naseem International School, Al Noor International School, and St. Christopher’s School, and 9 Government Schools and they are: East Riffa Secondary Boys School, Al Hidd Secondary Girls School, Al-Istiqlal Secondary Girls School, Jidhafs Secondary Girls School, Khawla Secondary Girls Schools, Al Noor Secondary Girls School, Saar Secondary Girls School, Sitra Secondary Girls School, Al Ta’awon Secondary Boys School, and 4 university teams as follows: BIBF, Polytechnic, Royal University for Women, and University of Bahrain.
