Seedstars GCC Competition was held yesterday in Bahrain, where 12 startups from all over the GCC pitched in their startup ideas in front of a jury, at CH9, Amwaj.
Seedstars World is an annual event run by the Swiss group Seedstars that have global and regional competitions for emerging startups across 65+ markets. The event was organized in partnership with CH9, the Economic Development Board, StartUp Bahrain, and the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism.
Bahraini startup, WNNA was the winner for the Most Promising Seedstars in the GCC. Not only that, but they get to fly to Switzerland in order to pitch for an equity investment of up to $1 million next year!
The startup which is co-founded by Ali Mohsen, a former Microsoft employee, aims to provide a customized and personalized recommendations that’s based on their location, time, preferences and more. The other team members include Hamad Fouad, the other co-founder and CTO of WNNA, Sadiq AlAali the Engineering Lead, Amina Darwish the Front-end Engineer, and Mohammed Alshaikh the Android Engineer.
Within the first six months since WNNA’s launch, it was able to reach 35,000 users and has trended on Apple and Google’s Play Store numerous times.
“We’re really excited that we won, and we’re proud to represent not only Bahrain, but the entire GCC region in the final summit,” Ali Mohsen told Startup MGZN.
Something that not many WNNA users know about is the fact that the app allows you to order food and have it delivered to right where you are, without using food delivery apps!
The Seedstars competition was a successful event where it brought together a number of innovative entrepreneurs. Seedstars was a great platform to see the StartUp Bahrain Community with local and regional startups.
