Mosawer Gains Popularity in Egypt

In May this year, one young Egyptian company launched the Mosawer website. The creators claimed it was the first comprehensive platform for photographers and videographers in the MENA region.

Mosawer is a meeting place for customers and photographers. The latter have the opportunity to show their portfolio, talk to clients, give their rates, and manage bookings. In the foreseeable future, they will also be able to receive payments via the platform. On the other hand, the customers can browse photographer’s profiles, get to know their work, and choose the one they like the most. They can also check the feedback from previous users.

The co-founder Mohab Elmandouh said that since the launch in May, about 1,600 photographers and videographers subscribed on the platform. There were more than 200 clients already:

Our business model is commission-based, charged to the photographer and completely free for clients. We also have a freemium subscription model for photographers. However, we haven’t launched payments yet as we’re currently focused on building traffic and customer acquisition.

According to Elmandouh, the platform had no direct competition in Egypt. It has received financial support and mentorship by TIEC. Elmandouh said he would be looking for more funding across the MENA region to expand the business. Although it is focused on the local market for the moment, Mosawer is open to professionals from all over the MENA region.
