Craving some yummy prawns? Here’s a South African restaurant in Bahrain to satisfy your craving

“With perseverance and hard work comes success,” this is what pushed Huda Marzooq, the owner of Jimmy’s Killer Prawns to open the international South African seafood restaurant chain here in Bahrain.

We had the pleasure of talking to the owner and the Marketing and Operation Director of Jimmy’s Group in the GCC Huda Marzooq, and she was more than happy to share with us her journey of opening this mouthwatering restaurant. The first Jimmy’s Killer Prawns restaurant was opened in an old mining house in Germiston, Johannesburg, South Africa in 1991. The restaurant’s concept gained traction in a rapid manner and people from all over came from the unique taste of Jimmy’s Killer Prawns.

When we asked Huda about how did she decide to open up Jimmy’s Killer Prawns in Bahrain, she said: “My husband and I have always believed in creating jobs instead of looking for one, and we were already hunting for business opportunities when we got to try Jimmy’s Killer Prawns in Abu Dhabi, and that is where it all started.” The couples soon contacted the head office of the restaurant in South Africa in 2014, and signed the franchise agreement later. Even though Huda was 8 months pregnant with twins, she still managed to work through it and was determined enough to reach her goal. “After a whole year and a half of hard work and success we signed a partnership agreement in early 2017 and became Jimmy’s representatives in the GCC,” she added.

What gives Jimmy’s Killer Prawns an edge is that their restaurant is the only restaurant that focuses on prawns as their main core product. “Our prawns are prepared with a unique blend of herbs and spices which give them the addictive taste that Jimmy’s Killer Prawns has become famous for,” Huda mentions.

Additionally, what helped in the launch of the successful business of Huda is Tamkeen’s support. It has covered up to 50% of their kitchen equipment, ICT and marketing costs. With Tamkeen’s help, Huda was able to secure some extra fund to invest towards Jimmy’s Killer Prawns that ensured a smooth opening and have the business run in an effective manner. Huda said that with Tamkeen’s support, they were able to fulfill their startups needs without having to worry much about the finances.
