I Guess I’m Gonna Have to Do It Myself

Time for me to roll up my sleeves and put my money where my mouth is.

I constantly talk about what’s wrong with Bahrain. I’ve been criticizing policies, people, and governmental departments for years. I think it’s about time to get up and put my money where my mouth is. I know it’s easier to criticize than to repair, and it may be time for me to take some criticism myself. I’ve been somewhat involved but never fully committed, therefore, I decided to run for a seat on the board of the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce.

Team Startup MGZN: The Next Generation

We are the next generation. I want to empower the youth, and we definitely need some new blood in the system. The new generation is smart, dynamic, enthusiastic, and needs to be given the attention it deserves. I believe it is also our role to introduce fresh positive ideas, and to learn from the wisdom and experience of older generations.

Learn from the Germans

I believe in a good system. Traveling abroad and living in Germany has shown me what a good system truly is. Instead of patchworks and temporary fixes, we need to contribute to a comprehensive solution that mends rather than covers up. Bahrain’s “business- friendliness” isn’t perfect and the only way to improve it is commence doing so one component at a time. Some ministries or governmental departments have serious issues that need to be looked into. With time and effort exerted, and communicating with the business community, these issues can be resolved.  We need to embrace open-mindedness and forward thinking. Having open arms looking for a hug can be business friendly, but we have to make sure that we smell nice when somebody does hug us.

One man Army

I’m running as an independent. As an independent I ensure diversity within the Chamber: I think it’s okay to have groups running against each other, but independents are essential to promote interaction and to ensure that different voices are heard. My voice conveys the ideas of those not represented by the other groups and contributes to a more balanced decision. Our role as the board is to support the current business infrastructure in whatever way possible.

Bahrain’s time

The board of directors in the chamber is not a self-serving position. The chamber was created to convey the legitimate needs of the business community to the government, and to interact positively with the remainder of society. I want to contribute to that positive exchange, bring the issues out into the open, and work diligently. My door will always be open to anyone who needs help, and for any complaints and suggestions.

Bahrain has always been ahead of its time in education, technology, and personal freedoms. I hope and pray that we remain progressive and right each wrong we come across. If the new generation doesn’t tackle the system then we’ll just be stuck in that old fashioned “it isn’t my problem” mentality.  It might seem crazy, but if we help others improve the system then we are helping ourselves in the long run.

Our generation needs to move. So get up. Move.
