Zain Bahrain, a leading telecommunications provider in the Kingdom has kicked off their ‘e-Waste Recycling Initiative’ in cooperation with the Supreme Council for Environment (SCE) and Crown Industries to promote and manage recycling of electronic waste after the positive results from Zain’s Bahrain first and second national mobile phone and e-waste recycling campaign that was launched in 2011 and 2015.
As a new movement, Zain Bahrain has placed a large drop box at Zain’s headquarter for employees to place any unwanted or expired electronic waste. The e-waste drop box is collected daily by Crown Industries, the pioneering recycling operation in Bahrain, who will then export the items to different parts of the world to be recycled according to international standards.
Zain Bahrain employees collected 1.5 tons of e-waste so far including old mobile devices, printers, cables, pc and other home and kitchen electronic appliances in just a week. The e-waste recycling initiative comes under Zain’s corporate responsibility to promote environmental awareness and finding a solution to waste crisis through responsible e-waste management.
“Zain Bahrain e-waste recycling initiative aims to raise awareness about electronic waste and ensure that end-of-life electronics are disposed of in an environmentally responsible manner. The significance and importance of proper electronic waste recycling cannot be overstated. Without it, the environmental impact can be devastating,” said Abdulla Bin Khalid, Zain Bahrain Director of Communications & Investor Relations.
Zain Bahrain is proud to collaborate with SCE and Crown Industries and look forward to taking this e-waste initiative nationwide as a second phase and call all organizations in Bahrain that have expired electronic equipment to deal with them in a responsible manner.
