Tyro App Gives Better Access to Education in Egypt

Tyro is an ambitious young startup aiming to reshape the tutoring industry in Egypt. The innovative platform connects students with pre-screened, qualified instructors who offer academic help at an affordable rate.

A recent British Council study revealed that the annual expenditure on private tuition in the country exceeded USD 2 billion. The local tutoring industry has been monopolized by teachers charging high rates.

Tyro allows students to browse through an extensive selection of instructors, to check their scholar background, academic skills and certifications. Mokhtar Ayman, Tyro’s founder commented that his primary focus was the quality of the teachers’ pool. All the applicants had to go through a competitive selection process before they got listed on the site.

The app offers tutors in different fields – business, calculus, software development, languages, and more. Students can also benefit from an international English language assessment test preparation. Tyro includes prep classes for IELTS, TOEFL, CFA, SAT. The price per session depends on the field of interest, the tutor’s experience, and rating. It starts at EGP 75 per hour and can get up to EGP 200 per hour.

Not only do the students benefit from the new app. It also empowers the Egyptian teaching community through giving it a much better exposure across the country. In addition to that, teaching online saves time on transportation. Also, it does not limit the number of students a teacher can work with.
