The participation of Bahrain in the competition, which was launched by Prince Andrew the Duke of York in 2014, is organised by Tamkeen. It aims to provide a platform within a wider interactive and integrated programme through which entrepreneurs can gain access to expertise, support and advice from local, regional and international professionals and connect with a global business network.
Tamkeen’s Chief Executive, Dr. Ebrahim Mohammed Janahi, said that this competition is in line with the objectives of fostering the capacity of entrepreneurs and enhancing their competitiveness by providing development opportunities, as well as promoting International best practices through an integrated communication and support network.
Dr. Janahi further noted that the program encourages creativity and innovation and raises awareness about global investment and partnership avenues and the economic ecosystem requirements of entrepreneurs.
Bahrain hosted the inaugural local edition in 2018 and received 99 applications from Bahraini entrepreneurs. These were then shortlisted to move on to the GCC and International qualifying rounds of the competition.
The international and final round concluded in December 2018, and saw Al-Rawi, an app co-founded by 3 Bahrain partners Hala Sulaiman, Ameera Al Qubaiti and Mohammed Ebrahim, winning the Global People’s Choice Award.
The local round of the 2nd edition of the competition will commence in April and see entrepreneurs pitch their projects to panel of top players in the worlds of investment, entrepreneurship, technology and media.
The two finalists from each participating country go on the international competition that will be organized at St James’ Palace in the United Kingdom and attended by the Duke of York and an audience of experts and other stakeholders.
More than 782 entrepreneurs from 59 countries around the world have competed in Pitch@Palace since it started in 2014.
