Batelco, one of Bahrain’s leading digital solutions provider has announced the launch of Batelco Gulf Network (BGN), a new international cable system.
The new system will provide the GCC region an additional option for regional and international connectivity solutions. The BGN cable runs over the state-of-the-art Optical Transfer Network (OTN) and meets the demand for reliable high bandwidth connectivity, and capacity serving the different needs of international services and supporting up to 8.8Tbps and beyond.
Mohamed Bubashait, Batelco’s CEO, stated that Batelco’s strategic plan is to develop a world-class advanced infrastructure that’s in line with Bahrain’s vision and aspirations, in addition to maintaining Bahrain’s position as a leader in the region’s ICT industry.
“Batelco chose to invest in the BGN as a fully owned and operated international fiber optic cable system, thus providing the country and region with a new state-of-the-art cable system that will enable meeting the growing demand for data services and applications,” Mohamed said.
The new system will facilitate the introduction of new and innovative services which in turn will boost Bahrain’s and the GCC’s communications capabilities and at the same time enhance the development of businesses as well as provide opportunities for new businesses in the region.
