Bahrain iGA launch NotifyMe, providing citizens with a central platform to recieve instant notifications about their transactions

Bahrain’s Information & eGovernment Authority (iGA) has announced the launch of the Government Notifications System (NotifyMe) on the National Portal Bahrain.bh.

The new service offers Bahrainis, residents, and GCC citizens a central platform to automatically receive official notifications related to their government transactions via SMS and email instead of by post.

Following the launch, iGA Deputy Chief Executive, eTransformation, Dr. Zakareya Ahmed AlKhaja highlighted the importance of this national project and its role in raising communication efficiency between the government and public by keeping them securely and privately informed of their transactions.

“The service will also significantly cut down on delivery timeframe and associated paperwork and logistics, while reducing expenses and administration work,” he stated.

Dr AlKhaja said the launch was in line with the objectives of the Coordinating Committee, chaired by HRH Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister.

It is also among several projects and national initiatives that have the support of the Minister of Interior, Lt. Gen Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, which aim to develop and automate government services, and offer them at the highest levels of quality to citizens and residents.

Dr AlKhaja lauded the role played by Telecommunication Regularity Authority (TRA) in co-ordinating with national telecommunications companies, to assist in this project by inviting citizens and residents by SMS to register via the National Portal bahrain.bh starting from next week.

Dr AlKhaja urged citizens and residents to update their contact details by visiting the National Portal or through the link in SMS messages sent through the service to ensure that notifications are received on the correct mobile phone numbers.

He noted that phone numbers and emails must be up to date as the system will carry out an automatic confirmation process prior to registration.

Explaining the process, Dr AlKhaja said: “To use the (NotifyMe) service on Bahrain.bh, users can select ‘Register Contact Details’ by the ekey or Identity Card. Once the login attempt is successful, the system will request users to enter their mobile numbers and the One-Time Passwords (OTP) which they will receive via SMS for the same mobile number entered. They can then click on the link which will email a confirmation link and the registration process will be successfully completed.”

He said iGA had been working on the technical preparations and procedures required to launch the NotifyMe Service, including adjustments in policy and updates to its contact information database mechanism, which receives notifications from other government entities and automatically forwards them to relevant parties via SMS or email.
