Get to know Bahrain’s First Female Music Producer, Sarah Nabil

Music is a global language, a shared love between people of all backgrounds and differences. It is a time capsule full of memories that can be unlocked with a listen or two, songs and melodies that take you back to your childhood, remind you of that one trip with your family, or an unforgettable outing with your friends. Think of it like a scent that reminds you of a specific person.

Now, if you haven’t heard of Sarah Nabil before, that’s on you! (To be fair, you might have actually heard her on the radio at some point.) She is the first female music producer/composer in the Kingdom as well as being a Mix Engineer. With an abundance of talent, passion and drive, Sarah is making her own trail for others to follow. Bahraini women are paving the way and we love to see it!

“My interest in music started at a very young age, and growing up I’d write and compose all the time on a keyboard.” Sarah shared, “It was more of a personal thing, and I didn’t really share it with people.”

At the age of 17, she already got into music production and took it upon herself to learn more about it and pick up skills. She met her mentor, DJ Outlaw, and immediately started working with him. They’ve been running Outlaw Productions together for 12 years!

Sarah is crowned as Bahrain’s first female producer and composer, but a crown, as beautiful and glorious, could get a little heavy. “It’s a massive responsibility. It’s very important to me that we see changes in the region and the industry as a whole when it comes to the presence of women. It’s no secret that women are hugely underrepresented in the industry, especially in roles such as producing, mixing, mastering, executive management, etc.” Chuu, chuu, let’s board the truth train!

As a bop* connoisseur herself, (*slang for really good songs, keep up boomers), we inquired what a song needs to be a certified hit, and Sarah said: “It’s gotta have a catchy element and the right bounce, that’s for sure. But at the end of the day, every song is different and it’s all about the vibe it gives off.” If it doesn’t make you dance, it’s not a bop.

If you think that’s all, well, lean back and keep reading because Sarah is also a singer! We asked her what made her venture into that path as well and she said, “I honestly love singing, but I love producing more. Singing came along because my team pushed me to do it. I do enjoy the process though and I’m currently working on some new projects.”

A vital lesson passed to us from her are wise, wise words everyone could benefit from. “If you’re feeling frustrated creatively, it’s okay to walk away from what you’re creating.” Taking time off a project and coming back to it provides you with a fresh perspective and more drive, so don’t be afraid to take a break and hit pause on something.

With all that said, Sarah mentioned she’s focusing on new projects of her own and for the artists signed to their label. “My biggest focus at the moment as an artist is continued creative growth. We’ve got singles, albums, music videos and more on the way.” Well, we simply can’t wait! But hold on, you didn’t think we forgot to ask about her favorite piece of music she’s worked on, right?

“There’s a song on Flipp and Lil Eazy’s album titled ‘What Happened?’, it’s one of my favorites.” Sarah shared, “another one would be ‘Inty Jameela’ by Flipperachi as well.” She added.
